Intermittent Power Failure in flight

Post by cmeleg »

Having an issue where power from the alternator is lost mid flight (intermittent) ... the alternator has been tested and shows good per an A&P. Any thoughts on what the issue could be beyond the actual alternator and/or belt? The airplane is currently stuck in GA and trying to figure out a way to resolve ... Thanks in advance!

My intermittent alternator issue turned out to be the alternator brushes. The dust built up from the wearing was conductive and causing my issue. Once we cleaned out the dust it worked with the same brushes; however, at the annual I had them replace the brushes. After the cleanup (even before replacing the brushes) it worked fine. That's my experience and 2 cents worth.

Thank you! We will double check with the A&P that did the testing to make sure this was part of the process ...
